第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
Art is considered by many people to be little more than an ordinary means of giving pleasure. This is not always the case; however at times, art maybe have a medical side as well. Such could be said of the Navaho Indians of the American southwest; they have a medical side as well as an artistic purpose.
According to the Navaho traditions, one who suffers from either a mental or a physical illness has in some way disturbed(打扰)or something to do with the supernatural—perhaps a certain animal,a ghost(幽灵), or the dead. To get rid of this bad connection, the sick person or one of his relatives will ask a medicine man called a “singer” to perform a treating ceremony(仪式)which will attract a powerful supernatural being. During the ceremony, which may last 2 to 9 days, the “singer” will produce a sandpainting on the floor of the Navaho house. On the last day of the ceremony, the patient will sit on this sandpainting and the “singer” will rub the sick parts of the patient's body with sand from a certain figure in the sandpainting. In this way the patient absorbs (吸收)the power of that particular supernatural being and becomes strong like it. After the ceremony, the sandpainting is then destroyed so its power will not harm anyone.
The art of sandpainting is handed down from old “singers” to their students. The materials used are easily found in the areas of the Navaho area: brown, red, yellow, and white sandstone, which is made by being crushed(压碎)into flour. The “singer” holds a small amount of this sand in his hand and let it flow between his thumb and forefinger onto a clean, flat surface on the floor. With a steady hand and great patience, he is thus able to create(创造) designs of some people, snakes and other creatures that have power in the Navaho belief system. The traditional Navaho does not allow reproducing of sandpainting, since he believes the supernatural powers that taught him the art have forbidden this, however, such reproductions can in fact be bought today in tourist shops in Arizona and new Mexico. These are done by either the Navaho Indians or by other people who wish to keep this art.

She is widely seen as proof that good looks can last forever. But, at over 500 years of age, time is catching up with the Mona Lisa.
The health of the famous picture, painted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1505, is getting worse by the year, according to the Louvre Museum (卢浮宫博物馆)where it is housed. “The thin, wooden panel on which the Mona Lisa is painted in oil has changed shape since experts checked it two years ago.” the museum said. Visitors have noticed the changes but repairing the world's most famous painting is not easy. Experts are not sure about the materials the Italian artist used and their current (现在的) chemical state.
Nearly 6 million people go to see the Mona Lisa every year, and many are attracted by the mystery of her smile. “It is very interesting that when you're not looking at her, she seems to be smiling, and then you look at her and she stops.” said Professor Margaret Livingstone of Harvard University.“It's because direct vision (视觉) is excellent at picking up details, but less suited to look at shadows. Da Vinci painted the smile in shadows.”
However, the actual story of the Mona Lisa is just as mysterious as the smile. Da Vinci himself loved it so much that he always carried it with him, until it was eventually sold to France's King Francis Ⅰ in 1519.
In 1911, the painting was stolen from the Louvre by a former employee, who took it out of the museum hidden under his coat. He said he planned to return it to Italy. The painting was sent back to France two years later.
During World War Ⅱ, French hid the painting in small towns to keep it out of the hands of German forces.
Like many old ladies, the Mona Lisa has some interesting stories to tell.
本文主要讲名画《蒙娜丽莎》的故事。
25. The underlined sentence in the first paragraph means the Mona Lisa________.
A. is losing its value
B. is being damaged after so many years
C. is getting more valuable with years passing
D. will rot away
答案:B 推理判断题。根据下文Mona Lisa的历史可推出,这里指的是随着时间的推移,Mona Lisa遭到一些损坏,关键句“...is getting worse by the year...”因此B项为正确答案。
26. The smile of the Mona Lisa can only be seen ________.
A. by indirect vision B. at a distance
C. by direct vision D. in shadows
答案:A 细节理解题。由关键句“It's because direct vision is excellent at picking up details, but less suited to look at shadows.”,可知Mona Lisa的微笑只有indirect vision才能看见。
27. Which of the following is TRUE about the Mona Lisa?
A. It was once taken away and hidden up by German forces.
B. Its painter himself loved it greatly and always kept it in a shade.
C. Mona Lisa stops smiling when you look at her wanting to see her smiles.
D. King Francis Ⅰ bought it and then returned it to Italy.
答案:C 细节理解题。由关键句“It is very interesting that when you're not looking at her, she seems to be smiling, and then you look at her and she stops.”可知。
28. It may add to the difficulty in repairing the painting that________.
A. experts haven't noticed changes in its shape as visitors have
B. it is likely to be stolen again when it's under repair
C. it is uncertain which country, Italy or France, should take charge
D. experts aren't sure about the materials and the chemical state of its oil paint
答案:D 细节理解题。关键句“Experts are not sure about the materials the Italian artist used and their current chemical state.”这件事将增加他们修复这幅画的困难。
C
[2014·江苏盱眙中学高二考试] Little Mark is only 6, but he has an IQ of 200, a genius among geniuses. But_his_intelligence_comes_at_a_cost. His parents must keep him intellectually simulated(启发) while making sure he is like any other little boy.
Mark has been attracted by the way how the world works since he was a baby. When he was 3, Mark was reading fluently, mostly self-taught. His parents haven't been able to keep him away from books since.
“I tried many times to stop him reading. We worry about his crazy fond of reading because he constantly wants to read everything whatever it is.”
A psychologist at the Centre for gifted children tested Mark and gave him an IQ of 200. The average child of Mark's age has an IQ of 100. At 200, Mark is a genius-even compared with other child geniuses.
“With children like Mark you can tell that's a bright child as soon as they walk in. They just have this sort of intensity, and maybe they're not so good at communicating with people,” the psychologist said, “He will never fit perfectly into a class where he's with children of his age.” But Mark's mother worries about the “socially isolated” labels. “Nobody wants their child to grow up with that image. I want him to communicate with others freely, but not to be frustrated academically, so it's really hard to find a balance,” she says.
Helen Dudeney from the Talented and Gifted Children Association says Mark is one in a million with such a high IQ. She points out that geniuses are still rare and difficult for the public education system to handle. “The lack of coping comes because teachers aren't trained in teaching gifted children,” says Dudeney.
Helen believes it's also extremely important for them to be recognized and supported in their talents. Mark's parents are trying to figure out how best to help Mark. At the moment, there are few options. Mark finds first year work boring and simple, but he must learn to complete the work. His mother says, “We just want to be happy. Just to have a happy childhood and want to go to school every day.”
本文说明了高智商有好的一面同时又有坏的一面。
29. By saying “But his intelligence comes at a cost.”, the author means that ________.
A. Mark must pay for his intelligence at a high price
B. Mark's intelligence brings him negative effects at the same time
C. Mark's intelligence results from his parents
D. Mark's parents make Mark clever at all costs
答案:B 推理判断题。由第五段的He will never fit perfectly into a class where he's with children of his age可以推断出高智商有反作用,所以选B。
30. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A. Mark's parents are very satisfied with his love for reading.
B. Mark began to teach himself reading at the age of 3.
C. Many child geniuses are not good at communicating with others.
D. It is hard for parents to bring up a genius.
答案:A 细节理解题。由第三段可以推出Mark的父母对Mark的热爱读书并不表示高兴和满足,所以选A。
31. Mark may find some difficult in________.
A. reading B. entertainment
C. communication D. study
答案:C 细节理解题。由第五段前两句可知选C。
D
Everyone needs entertainment to take their minds away from the boring chores of everyday life. This entertainment can be in the form of music, movies, plays and various other activities. The most common forms of entertainment are movies, which are watched by people of all ages.
Movies are entertaining, but some movies can have a negative effect on their audience. Little children may watch animated movies(动画片) on their favorite superheroes who do supernatural things, or on some other characters they admire, like Mickey Mouse who does all sorts of things that are not possible in real life. These movies can lead children into thinking that they too can do all these things.
Many of the young people may like watching action movies, and the violence in these movies also has an effect on their minds. It makes them think more about violence and extremism, and may lead them into committing crimes and other acts that can hurt others. These young people may watch their favorite actors do other things that are disliked in society. Their favorite actors and characters may take drugs, like smoking cigarettes in their shows and movies, which negatively influences the young audience and they may begin smoking too, or they may think that it is “cool” or it will raise their social status.
Although some movies have a negative effect on their audience, others may have a positive effect too. There are many educational movies out there that are informative. These movies are very few in number as compared to other movies that are not as informative. These movies are not liked by the young audience.
电影是一种常见的娱乐形式。有些电影给人们带来了积极的影响,但是也有很多电影(包括孩子们喜欢的一些动画片和年轻人喜欢看的动作电影)给人们带来了消极影响。
32. The first paragraph serves as a(n)________.
A. explanation B. introduction
C. comment D. background
答案:B 篇章结构题。本文主要介绍电影给人们生活带来的影响。第一段提到电影是一种常见的娱乐形式,主要作用是引入话题。
33. The author uses Mickey Mouse as an example to show________.
A. movies focus on education and entertainment
B. animated movies will gain popularity among children
C. some movies fill children's minds with untrue ideas
D. children are usually naughty like Mickey Mouse
答案:C 推理判断题。根据第二段第二句可知,动画片中的米老鼠能做到在现实生活中不可能做到的事情。由此可推知,作者举米老鼠的例子是想说明很多儿童影片用一些超现实的东西填满孩子的心灵。
34. What's the main idea of the third paragraph?
A. Most young people like action movies.
B. Young people admire actors
